Wichai Praisa-ngob, the Governor of Phuket, informed that the province had set up a task force to suppress drugs in Phuket since 2004. This group of officers were government officers of Phuket and the border police of Takua Pa district, Phang Nga. The officers had performed their duty in drug suppression very well.
In the first half of the year 2010, this group of officers had arrested 75 people in drugs cases. They included 21,636 tablets of amphetamine, 222.21 grams of meth amphetamine, and 401 tablets of Ecstasy. Other items seized were 5 guns and 30 bullets. Those seized items were worth around 10 million baht.
Wichai added that the drugs were transferred from the northern and central region of Thailand to Phuket by land and sea. Therefore the officers strictly kept an eye on the vehicles coming to the checking points, jetties, and marinas. Moreover, he said that some people arrested this year used to be arrested on similar cases in the past.
