On 6th November 2013, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut together with Phuket Harbour Official – Nachapong Pranit visited Koh Maprao Port to inspect the safety standards of the boats that are used for to transport villagers and tourists to and from the island, also known as Coconut Island.
Khun Maitree said “This transportation port is used by a great number of locals and tourists every day and it is essential that the safety of the passengers that use the boat services is paramount. It is down to the boat’s operators to ensure that they adhere to the set safety measures at all times, especially when it comes to each and every passenger wearing a safety jacket when on a any boat. If this is not done then the operators are failing to comply with the rules and regulations of the Harbor Department.”
He added “The province has assigned the Office of the Harbor Region, Phuket Branch to continue to monitor that the licenses for the vessels have not expired, that they are not carrying more passengers than the law states, that all required safety devices are in place, and that the operators of the boats have all the required certificates.”
