Phuket agrees to Coastal Water Safety Summit

Phuket agrees to hold Coastal Water Safety SummitOn 25th November 2013 at Phuket Provincial Hall, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut welcomed Mr Martin Carpenter – British Honorary Consul for Phuket who were meeting to discuss the safety and security of people along the Andaman sea coast.

Mr Carpenter has now established “Safer Phuket” a new marine-safety non-government organization (NGO) that serves to promote greater safety within coastal waters. The organization is to hold a Coastal Water Safety Summit on 9th – 10th January 2014 at Royal Phuket Marina at the Phuket International Boat Show Event. During the summit, the group is looking to hit on five main topics: improving lifeguard capabilities, international training standards, consistent beach management regulations and the setting up of a world-class search-and-rescue service, all of which the group see as important factors to enable sustainable tourism in Phuket.

Mr Carpenter has invited all relevant government departments to get involved with Safer Phuket and Khun Maitree has agreed that all relevant Government officers and members of the private sector will receive marine-safety training during the event.
