Phuket City Minicipality approves THB 26 million for fresh market stalls construction

13 November 2009 – Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansuppana revealed in the press conference yesterday that the council has just approved budget of 26 million baht for municipal fresh market stalls construction during its 3/2009 extraordinary meeting on October 28, 2009.

Phuket City Municipality’s fresh market renovation project has been finished on 23rd June this year. However, with no stalls featured, all vendor still cannot move in.

Once construction is complete, all vendors submitted a proposal to the municipality to help them build their stalls first and they will pay back later.

Mayor Somjai said what people have aked them to do is within their scope of duty. Therefore the council considered to pass the proposal, approved 19 million baht for stalls construction, 6.7 million baht for the aisles and 0.5 million baht for waste container.

The market set for completion and readiness to open by February next 2010.
