On May 24th 2010, there was a meeting between Phuket provincial administrators and the Honorary Consuls of 17 countries to Phuket at the new Phuket Provincial Hall. Those present were Smith Palawatwichai – a Vice Governor of Phuket, Thanawat Sirikul – Head of Passport Office in Phuket, Paiboon Upattising – the President of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization or PPAO, Pol. Col. Chalit Kaewyarat – the Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, Pol. Col. Panuwat Ruamrak – the Commander of Phuket Immigration Office, Suchart Hiran – the President of Thai Hotel Association for Southern Chapter, and representatives from related government offices.
Smith revealed that after the last meeting held on February 8th 2010, the related government offices had been solving the problems mentioned in that meeting. This meeting was held to inform all Honorary Consuls about the political situation in Thailand and to discuss about problems mentioned by the Honorary Consuls including unfair transportation rates and traffic problems.
Thanawat said that all Honorary Consuls understood the situation in Thailand and would explain to people in their countries that Phuket is peaceful and would always welcome tourists from all over the world.
