Phuket Governor Maitree Inthusut has revealed Phuket has prepared strategies which will see the island promoted as the centre point of travel in Thailand, and also to promote more of the less popular aspects which Phuket has to offer its increasing number of international visitors. A budget of 5,146 million baht has already been granted for the expansion of Phuket’s International airport, which is expected to be complete in the 2015, and will enable the airport to cater for 9% more tourists.
The 4M strategies include promoting Phuket as a Medical Tourism Hub, its Marina and Yachting facilities, and also its MICE facilities.
It is anticipated that Phuket can raise over 100,000 million baht per year from those who visit Phuket for medical procedures such as cosmetic surgery, the cost of which is so much cheaper than in western countries. It also hopes to become the number 1 choice for Thailand’s growing MICE industry.
