Mr.Tri Akaradecha, the Governor of Phuket, has confirmed all 19 tsunami warning towers in Phuket work. He also added Phuket had received 147 million baht of budget from the government to establish the Andaman Disaster Warning Center.
“The tsunami warning towers are tested on the15th and 16th of every month. Every tower works well. The local administrative organizations take responsibility to maintain the towers. People in high risk areas also get trained in evacuation drills at least twice a year. I am confident everyone knows how to escape from a tsunami. Phuket residents should not over worry about a disaster. However, everybody should follow the news from every channel since they can then prepare themselves to cope with a disaster just in case.” said Tri.
Moreover, the governor added the government would spend 147 million baht of budget to establish the Andaman Disaster Warning Center, which will be the center for warnings and operations for 5 Andaman provinces including Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, and Ranong. The center will work to improve the communication system in cases of a disaster by providing radios to be used instead of mobile phones. The muster point improvement will be another mission for the center.
