Phuket to get strict on drunken drivers

San Chantawong, head of Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket said that Phuket has prepared to cope with any accidents occurring during the Songkran holidays following the accident prevention plan for years 2009 – 2012.

Last year, most victims who died in accidents were aged 15 – 20 years old. The peak times of accidents were 5.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. and 1.00 a.m. while the worst accident scenes were Ratsada, Wichit and Taladyai sub-districts and the highest cause of accidents was drunken drivers. To reduce the accident rate this year, the provincial government and the police will be stricter against drunken drivers and impose punishments for those people.

The checkpoints will be located at Muang Mai Building, Thepkrasatri Rd., Baan Sapam School, Chaofathani Villa, Cherngtalay Police station, Tarue intersection, Patong Hill junction, Phuket Fantasea, and Tunkthong Police Station.
