Somjai Suwansupana, the Mayor of Phuket City Municipality, revealed the progress of the municipality’s main market called Baan Saan Fresh Market (on Ranong Road of Phuket City). She recalled that the market had been used for 59 years. Then the municipality decided to renovate the old market. During the renovation, the merchants were selling their goods at a temporary market nearby Suan Luang Rama 9 Park.

The temporary market was on private land. The land leasing contract would be finished on August 9th 2010. Then all the merchants would move back to the renovated market. However before the moving day, the municipality would test if all systems in the renovated market are complete.

Somjai said that there were 60-70 merchants, who did not agree terms and conditions of booth leasing in the new market, but 76% of the merchants had signed an agreement already, and most should be selling fresh produce by the end of August.
