EXAT to continue working on Patong Tunnel

(25 April 2012) Mr Aiyanut Tinapai, Governor of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has reported the progress of the building the proposed Patong Tunnel stating “EXAT and the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning are currently proposing the details of the building of the Patong Tunnel to the Cabinet. If goes as planned, EXAT will meet with government officials to talk about the design and structure of the tunnel in the near future.”

Study into the tunnel’s design and structure may take up to a year as it needs special inspection due to the recent earthquakes. The planned Patong Tunnel will be a 4-lane tunnel, 3 km in length, cutting through Kathu and Patong. The construction might take 3 years, at a budget of around 6,000 million Baht.
