Artificial Corals placed in Nai Yang Bay in Phuket

On March 23rd, 2010, potential artificial corals made from concrete were dropped into the sea 2 kilometers off Nai Yang Bay. The artificial coral project was the work of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization in cooperation with Department of Marine and Coastal Resource Phuket Office, Sirinat National Park Office, the 3rd Naval Area, Department of Fisheries, Department of Marine Transportation and local administrative organizations.

Paitoon Panchaiphum, head of Marine and Coastal Resource Phuket Office, said that coral beds in Phuket sea were really decaying therefore it’s important that every sector liaise to solve this problem together. In Nai Yang Bay there’s only 812 rai of coral habitat and after placing the artificial corals, there should be about 500 more rai of coral habitat.
