19 Tsunami warning towers in Phuket are confirmed to work


Niwit Aroonrat – a Vice Governor of Phuket, San Chantawong – Head of Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket, Suphat Rattanasompan – the Deputy Chief of Patong Municipality, and Weerapong Waitayawongsakul – Head of Phuket Provincial Public Relation office, together gave a statement on the Phuket Tsunami Evacuation Drill.

phuketAs the National Disaster Warning Center requires the six Andaman provinces to run an evacuation drill in their provinces, Phuket, as well as the other five provinces, would run the evacuation drill on September 13th 2010 from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.  There were 19 tsunami warning tower located in 12 areas under the responsibility of 12 local administrative organizations. However, the drill center would be on Patong Beach where people would practice evacuating from the beach up Soi Bang La lane to the muster point at Jungceylon Department Store’s car park.

San Chantawong said that last year there had been comments that five disaster warning towers didn’t work well. He then informed the National Disaster Warning Center to check if there was any problem with the towers. The centre confirmed that all towers were in good condition and could work efficiently.
