Certificates were recently awarded to participating lifeguards who successfully completed the latest Volunteer Lifeguard Training Course at the closing of the program held at the Naiyang Beach Resort Hotel. PPAO Deputy Council Chairman – Sakchai Chaowai, accompanied by Council Member – Prawat Pimanprom and Director of PPAO Planning and Budget Division – Satien Keopraprap, presided over the closing ceremony and handed out awards.
Mr Sakchai reported that all participants applied themselves fully during the course, an indication that the training was well received, successful and fulfilled the aims of the organizer. These trained volunteer lifeguards, he said, would act as an extension to the professional lifeguards by informing tourists of swim-safety areas, spotting impending dangers and tourists in distress, and perform rescue and first-aid treatment when necessary. The combined force of professional lifeguards and volunteers will help to build tourist confidence and project a good impression of Phuket as a safe destination.
The training course for the volunteer lifeguards took place from August 25 – 29 at the Cherng Talay Municipality swimming pool and was attended by 50 participants made up of members of the public, staff from nearby hotels, vendors in the region and members of local swimming clubs. The course was divided into four levels and out of the 50 participants, three passed the basic training, while 22, 16 and 9 passed at level one, two and three respectively.
