On June 29th 2014, the occasion Phuket Sunshine Village’s (PSV) seventh anniversary, PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom, acting on behalf of PPAO Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising, took part the Village’s celebrations which were hosted by Phuket Governor – Maitri Inthusut at PSV in Koh Sirey.
According to Dr Supalak Kanjanamethakul, President of the establishment, PSV was founded on 26th December 2004 to offer a long-term support to sufferers of the tsunami. Its scope is to look after underprivileged children and its work follows the thinking of SOF Kinderdorf, a children’s village of the Austrian charity organization of the same name. PSV, Dr Supalak continued, owes thanks to the French Red Cross who helped fund the construction of the present building, which was officially opened in June 2014.
PSV now looks after over 300 young people, 81 of whom are orphans or underprivileged. The establishment strives to re-create a home-like atmosphere and living conditions comparable to those of a family unit. Education is offered as a matter of routine along with special classes and leisure activities. Participation in outdoor sports trainings has enabled PSV to win the 11th place at the Asian Sailing competition.
Dr Supalak stressed the tasks of bringing up children are long, arduous and costly, and needs support from society. She solicited help from kind donors and those interested can contact PSV at 15/20 Soi Nam Nung Jai Dieu, Moo1, Tiam Pracha Uthit, Koh Sireh, Amphoe Mueng, Phuket 83000, or through its website at www.phuketsunshinevillage.org.
