Phuket, Thailand, 9th April 2021 – Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach continued to give back to its island home in the first quarter of 2021, with a series of important CSR initiatives that helped to protect Phuket’s environment and support local communities.
In line with “Serve360 – Doing Good in Every Direction”, Marriott International’s global pledge to be a force for good and create a positive and sustainable impact wherever it does business, the resort’s team took part in several highly worthwhile projects.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, a team of female associates from Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach visited Uncle Pitak’s Home, a daycare center for the children of women in prison. The hotel team came together with members of the public to donate educational items and dried food to this volunteer-run facility.
Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach also teamed up with SOS Thailand, the food rescue foundation, and other Marriott International resorts in Phuket for an interactive event to help feed underprivileged members of the local community. The resort’s General Manager, Gerd Kotlorz, joined with other GMs and kitchen teams to prepare 800 delicious three-course meals, pack them into reusable food containers and serve them to residents in Patong. An estimated 150 people also brought their own pinto boxes and queued up for the event at Patong Fire Station.
Looking ahead, this initiative will now be hosted every quarter. Other properties taking part include The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort, Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort, The Naka Island, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Phuket, Le Méridien Khao Lak Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa, and the new Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, which is scheduled to open soon.
SOS Thailand is a long-standing partner of Marriott International, and all the ingredients used in the initiative were sourced from surplus food from Marriott’s hotel kitchens, thus helping to reduce food waste.
In the current global situation, health and hygiene is more important than ever. With this in mind, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach has created a D.I.Y. spa scrub, which guests can help to make during a morning class hosted by the Quan Spa team. This homemade scrub is produced using natural ingredients and will be distributed to guests, associated and the community.
The resort’s beach cleaning activity has been a remarkable success, helping to keep all areas of the seafront free from litter. Marriott has already eliminated single-use plastics such as straws and bags, and replaced them with high-quality biodegradable options. With the beach now looking clean and pristine, many guests are taking the opportunity to enjoy a takeaway pinto box as a picnic on the sand or lawn.
Finally, the resort has started its new weekly run, bringing guests and associates together for an early evening jog around the local area. More than 20 people regularly take part in this event, which is aimed at boosting health and fitness.
Looking ahead, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach will continue to work hand-in-hand with its sister hotels and resorts in Phuket, along with like-minded partners and non-profit organizations to preserve the environment and support local residents, including those most in need of help.
“At Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, CSR is not simply a mandatory exercise; it is a deep commitment to conserving and improving our destination. Our entire team is dedicated to serving our community, preserving the environment and enhancing the lives of local people. The last 12 months have been extremely tough for everyone, but we sincerely hope that our CSR projects will help to create a sense of hope for a brighter future. This is only the beginning; looking ahead, we will continue to forge new partnerships and embark on new activities for the benefit of everyone in Phuket,” commented Gerd Kotlorz, General Manager, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach.
