Thailand, 9th April 2021 – Marriott International Hotels and Resorts in Phuket and Phang Nga and Scholars of Sustenance (SOS), a food rescue foundation, recently hosted their third mutual Rescue Kitchen to provide warm meals to the local community.
“During these challenging times, we believe that warm and nutritious meals have both positive physical and mental benefits and help people to work for a better tomorrow.” said Mr. Brad Edman, Multi Property Vice President, Phuket. “At Marriott, we always strive to take the best possible care of our guests and our associates. We are committed to giving back to the local communities where we live and work. ‘Serving our world’ is one of Marriott’s core values.”
On the 24th March, over 40 volunteers, including general managers, chefs and associates from 11 Marriott International Hotels and Resorts in Phuket and Phang Nga, worked with SOS Thailand to organize and run a pop-up kitchen that served over 13,700 nutritious meals to community members in Patong and Ko Kaew. In order to prevent food waste and minimize single-use plastic, Rescue Kitchen repurposes surplus ingredients from the hotels and combines them with fresh local ingredients to create delicious and nutritious meals. The community is encouraged to bring their own reusable food containers when they pick up their meals.
Marriott International hotels and resorts taking part in this initiative include Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket, Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa Merlin Beach, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa Nai Yang Beach, The Naka Island Resort & Spa, Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa, and Le Méridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort.
