On 27th June 2013, Phuket Vice Governor – Sommai Preechasil and Director of the Phuket Department of Rural Roads – Teeraporn Jirarattanakorn went to inspect the proposed area which is to be used for the construction of the new “Darasamuth Intersection Bypass”, which will go to and from the Prince of Songkla University in Tambol Vichit. It is hoped that by constructing the new road people wil be able to avoid using Downtown during the construction of the new Darasamuth Intersection.
Khun Sommai said “Construction of the Darasamuth Intersection is causing a lot of traffic jams, and therefore we need to provide an alternative route during its construction. However, if we construct this new road it will also be of long term benefit to road users who wish to travel between Phuket Town and Kathu and use this route to get to destinations such as Patong or Chalong. These people will not have to sit and wait in long jams in the construction area. We are currently in the process of requesting a budget for the operation.”
Khun Teeraporn added “The proposed new road will have 2 traffic lanes and will be 1.250 km long. It is estimated that it will use a budget of around 9.8 million baht. The starting point will be at Soi Bang Yai (near Makro) and will reach Soi Na Sua (near Vichit Police Station) which is connected to the Kathu and make traveling more convenient.”
