Soi dog has sent a team to Chiang Rai to assess the food needs of pets affected by the floods. They are working with local authorities to distribute food and provide relief to animals in need. Soi dog has gone to the field to distribute food for 7,650 dogs and cats affected by the flooding in Chiang Rai province.
Soi dog staff, in collaboration with the Chiang Rai Livestock Office, have conducted on-site assessments and discovered numerous pets trapped in flood-affected homes, awaiting rescue and sustenance. Among the cases they encountered were four cats stranded in a flooded house without food or water, as well as a cat trapped on a balcony with no way to escape. Soi dog provided food supplies and assessed the situation, coordinating with local authorities to determine the exact number of affected dogs and cats. According to reports, 7,650 animals were in need of assistance, and Soi dog has successfully distributed sufficient food to meet their requirements. Furthermore, the foundation has been following up on previously rescued cases to ensure the continued well-being and safety of the animals.
The Soi dog officials on the ground have already distributed some pet food to the affected dogs and cats while assessing the situation and coordinating with local authorities in all disaster-stricken areas to confirm the number of pets in need. This information will help ensure that sufficient food is prepared and delivered for these animals. Furthermore, the Soi dog staff are following up on previously assisted cases to ensure that the rescued dogs and cats are safe and in good condition.
Piyapong, a resident of the Army Welfare Housing Project in Rim Kok subdistrict, Mueang district, Chiang Rai, who was affected by the flood and owns four cats that were rescued by Soi dog, saying, “The floodwaters rose so rapidly. I could only salvage what I could by placing them on higher ground. But the water kept rising, and the current was incredibly strong. For two days, I desperately tried to find a way to rescue my cats. I was heartbroken, but when Soi dog arrived, I felt a huge sense of relief. As I approached my flooded home, I called out to my cats. If they hadn’t responded, I would have been devastated. Thankfully, they meowed back, and finding them alive filled me with joy. It was worth all the sleepless nights. Now that they’re safe and sound, I can finally relax. The loss of my belongings pales in comparison to the joy of having my cats back.”
Mr. Saranyu, a Soi dog staff member, described the devastating scene, saying, “The reality was far worse than what we saw on the news. People had lost everything – their homes, their vehicles. Soi dog like a stranger to the local community, but when we give them helping, they welcomed us warmly, offering us food and water. Local officials, provided us with valuable information and coordinated with other agencies to facilitate our efforts in helping the animals in the area.”
“As we left the flood-affected area, the water level had receded but was still unstable. However, we knew that the assistance we had provided had given hope to the local people. It empowered them to face the challenges ahead, knowing that they were not alone. At least, they no longer had to worry about their pets’ food, because Soi dog already help them this. Another heartwarming aspect of this experience was the strong sense of community and compassion among the Thai people. Whether it was pet owners, rescue worker, or government agencies, everyone came together to help the animals in need. It was truly a humbling experience. The list of agencies that Soi dog has provided food assistance for dogs and cats totals 30 tons, distributed to the following organizations: Chiang Rai Provincial Livestock Office, Mueang Chiang Mai, Tanbon Mae Yao, Bandu Subdistrict Municipality Office, Mae Khao Tom Subdistrict Municipality Office, Rim Kok Subdistrict Municipality Office, Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality Office, Koh Chang Subdistrict Municipality Office, Si Mueang Chum Subdistrict Municipality Office, Wiang Phang Kham Subdistrict Municipality Office, Mae Sai Mittaphab Subdistrict Municipality Office, Ban Dai Subdistrict Municipality Office and Opportunity for Change Foundation.
