On Saturday December 21st 2013, PPAO Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising, PPAO Chief Executive Advisor – Boonsern Suwannarathphoom, PPAO Chief Administrator – Watcharin Pathomwattanapong, PPAO Council Chairman – Pradit Saengchan, visited the PPAO Ban Nabon School in Chalong to view an environment project designed by the school, which on December 4th 2013 won the Thailand EE Award in the “Environment in Schools” category. The award was given by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion attached to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Assistant teacher Suwanee Sitiloh, responsible for the project, informed the visiting panel “We have received this award because the school has put in place a systematic work environmental management, right from planning to construction and establishing the right vision. Part of the project is to raise environmental awareness in teachers, students and the community. We have been given support by PPAO, but guidance and recommendations have come from sectors such as Phuket Environment Foundation, Environment Group of Vachira Hospital, Wichit Municipality, the school’s board and executives. The success of this project is due partly to our students’ commitment and the teachers’ broad-mindedness. The award represents collective efforts of the people of Phuket.”
She continued “Our school has developed a complete learning centre concerning refuse management, refuse bank, compost making from leaves, and making bio-gas from left-over food, for example. In the area of energy, our students and teachers work with the community by encouraging people to save water and electricity. With regard to green space, we plant trees in the school area, grow hydroponic vegetables, and have developed a kitchen and herb garden.”
Mr. Paiboon said: “I am very proud that this PPAO School has achieved so much success as a leader in the field of the environment, where practical work is not only done in school but also carried out at the students’ home. I thank all the teachers who have made PPAO Ban Nabon School a veritable model of success on a national level.”
