On May 19th2010, at Royal Phuket City Hotel, the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology or TINT hosted a seminar discussing about prevention and mitigation plans to be used in case of accidents at proposed nuclear power stations. Those attending included staff of Phuket Public Health Office, hospitals in Phuket, Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket, police, local administrative organizations, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization and Phuket City Municipality.
At the seminar, Manit Chonsuk, the Vice Director of TINT, said that they had hosted seminars in different parts of Thailand to find out people’s opinions about the prevention and mitigation plans supporting nuclear power stations that may be established in Thailand. This plan would be used in accidents or emergency cases concerned with the nuclear power plants.
He commented that “nuclear power was a better solution of power source in the future; however, we have to see if the country is ready for this kind of power and how much power we have to supply to the citizens and industrial sectors. Then we must conclude the information and pass it over to the government.”
