Phuket, Thailand – April 14, 2018: With mobile phones, tablets and cameras at the ready, everyone cheered as each turtle and bamboo sharks was carried down to the surf to start their journey back to the sea.
As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, Anantara Mail Kho Phuket Villas works closely with Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation raised the funds to retrieve these sea turtle eggs, and ensure they are carefully incubated in a secured environment to then hatch safely.
Mr. Nikolaus Priesnitz, Cluster General Manager welcomed donners, participants and guests of honor among; Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Deputy DG of National Park Wildlife and Plant Department;
Dr. Kongkiat Kittiwattanawong, Director of PMBC and Khun Ratree Suksuwan, Head of Phuket Aquarium, PMBC to release sea turtles which represent longevity in Thai culture and also release bamboo sharks into the Andaman Sea.
Mr. Nikolaus Priesnitz, Cluster General Manager said, “Anantara Mai Khao Annual Turtle Release Program” is an activity that we have offered at our resort for many years. The preservation of life is indeed a precious gift. This is a rewarding experience that always leaves a smile on the faces of our participants”.
Hopefully the sea turtles will continue to visit Mai Khao beach, and that – many years later – some of these babies will also return to lay their eggs. Meanwhile, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is proud to continue this program of turtle conservation. Proceeds from this event will go to Mai Khao Turtle Foundation and its partners, Phuket Marine Biological Center’s Injured Turtle Rehabilitation Program and the Third Naval Area Command’s Turtle Hatchery Program.
