Phuket, Thailand – February is the month of love, and as many couples plan their celebration at fine restaurants or buying gifts, a group of friends from Australia have a different way to celebrate — at the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket.
Mr. and Mrs. Ian Pryer, along with Professor Graham Newstead and Ms. Michelle Newman, have been returning guests to the resort for almost 10 years. Mr. Newstead said, “We love Dusit, and we can’t imagine celebrating our Valentine’s Day anywhere else without knowing the people here are doing well after the tsunami.”
The group made their reservations to celebrate the 2005 New Year at Dusit Thani Phuket Laguna, and were scheduled to depart from Sydney just two days after the tsunami struck the Indian Ocean. Even after being informed on the damage inflicted on Bang Tao Beach, where the resort is located, two of them kept with their travel plans and continued to travel to Thailand for their 2005 New Year.
The group donated their personal money to local vendors and staff of the Dusit Thani who fell victim and lost almost everything during the tsunami. They travel to the resort every year at the same time for a 3-4 week period to visit their ‘Phuket family.’
The group of friends could not imagine the Phuket experience anywhere other than the Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket. Mr. Pryer added, “I love the luscious greenery of the Dusit gardens with its swaying Casurina trees, and thick carpet of grass that flows to the golden sands of the beach. The resort environment is very peaceful coupled with the true warmth of Thai hospitality, given from the hearts of these Thai staff.”
Mr. Newstead mentioned, “We would like to make sure our beloved home is ready for us next year,” and he has already booked reservations for the first four weeks of 2011.
