Starwood Phuket Hotels Go Dark Beyond Earth HourAll three Starwood hotels in Phuket; The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket, Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort and The Naka Island, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Phuket celebrate a shared commitment to protect our planet and take part in the Earth Hour along with more than one thousand hotels under Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s (NYSE:  HOT) around the world.

The three Starwood Phuket properties will all turn off the lights in observance of Earth Hour on Saturday 29 March 2014 at 8:30 p.m. (local time). More than 2,000 hotel associates and guests will be invited to turn off the non-essential lights in the buildings, unoccupied guest rooms, and dining venues.

Initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, the global movement aims to encourage an interconnected global community to share the opportunities and challenges of creating a sustainable world.

The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket will also share other energy-saving measures by bringing all of the three restaurants’ kitchens and offering the menus at one main restaurant. To encourage and engage children in environmental awareness, green activities and initiatives will be provided to the children on the property throughout the day.

Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort has continually strived to minimize its impact on the environment with emphasis on waste reduction, efficient energy management, water conservation since its opening in 1987, and active received the ASEAN Green Hotel Recognition Award 2008-2014 for its ‘commitment to environmental protection and outstanding efforts in environmental conservation’ as well as 5 Leaves Certificate for Excellent Environmental Practices from Thailand’s Green Leaf Foundation in 2013.

Earth Hour is drawing strong support from Starwood hotels around the globe. This year will mark Starwood’s sixth annual participation in Earth Hour, making it one of the biggest worldwide companies to make a global statement with a voluntary hour of darkness.
