Roberto Di Matteo, Head Coach of West Bromwich Albion FC, bought a condo in Phuket

On Thursday 13 May 2010, Roberto Di Matteo, the well known Italian ex football player and now Head Coach of West Bromwich Albion FC, just re-promoted to the English Premier League, came to Phuket to celebrate by buying a condominium at Serenity Residence in Kathu, Phuket for about 6 million baht.

Roberto Di Matteo is a Swiss-born Italian former professional footballer at famous clubs Lazio and Chelsea and current coach or manager of West Bromwich Albion, who he led in his first season to 2nd place in the 2009-10 Coca Cola Championship league to gain promotion to the top Barclays Premier League. He also played for Italy’s national team 34 times, scoring two goals and played for them in the Euro 1996 and 1998 World Cup. At Chelsea he wrote himself into FA Cup history by scoring the then-quickest ever goal in a final as his 43-second strike set up a 2-0 win over Middlesboro in 1997. He also scored in Chelsea’s 2-0 League Cup victory over Middlesboro in 1998 and in 2000 netted the last FA Cup final goal at old Wembley in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa. He also won a European Cup Winners’ Cup winners’ medal with Chelsea in 1998.

The Serenity Residence is located in Kathu between the go-kart track and waterfall with hilly and lake views. It has its own pool, wellness area and tropical garden. Various appealing golf courses and facilities are conveniently reached by car in only a few minutes.

The adjoining Serenity Golf Hotel, which is under Swiss management, was built only a few years ago. It consists of four bungalows and the main wing rooms including 11 rooms. All the rooms have of a view of the lake, and partly of the pool.

He came several times to play golf, liked here and the location near the golf courses and really liked the local culture; he bought one condo of 90 square meters, with mountain and of course golf course views; it cost him about 6.5 million baht on a freehold/permanent not leasehold basis; he will probably come here again in Summers between the football seasons and maybe also in December; we hope he might bring his football team here too one day!”
