Phuket’s SuperCheap to rise from the ashes in 2014On 13th November 2013 at Phuket Provincial Hall, Khun Boonsom Anancharoonwong – Managing Director of SuperCheap met with Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut to thank for the province for all the support and help it received from various Government departments during and after the fire which left the outlet completely burnt to the ground.

Khun Boonsom said “It was amazing the help that we received from the moment the fire started. However, we still have no idea what caused it and we are still awaiting the forensic report.

“With regards to our employees, I am happy to say that 2736 staff has decided to stay employed by us. However, more than 400 staff either didn’t return to work after the fire or have since resigned from the company.”

He added “With regards to a new SuperCheap, I can confirm that we will be building a new store on the original site. As per the original SuperCheap store it will be open air, it will consist of two large buildings joined together but it will have a lot more exits. There will also be a lot more security which this time will operate for 24 hours. We believe that construction will require a budget of around 100 million baht. Construction of the new store will commence at the beginning of 2014 and will take 5 months to complete, so we should be back to normal by mid 2014.”
