Khun Supawan said “Phuket is one of the top 4 MICE cities in Thailand, the charming island located in the Andaman sea is popular with travellers from around the world and it has excellent transportation, hotels & meeting venues. In 2012, Phuket’s MICE industry was worth up to 4,820 million baht, the country’s second highest. This figure was made up of 4,725 million baht from overseas business and 95 million baht from domestic. There were a total of 788 events, which saw 79,862 people in attendance, 59,066 foreigners and 20,796 Thais.”
Khun Anchalee added “Phuket should be developing its people when it comes to the MICE industry because in 2015 Thailand will participate as part of ASEAN, or AEC. Therefore, it is important that it develops itself to help support the growth of the province. Experts need to be implemented in accordance with the growth of Phuket’s MICE industry, as from recorded data we have found MICE tourists spend more than 3-4 times the amount than that of general tourists.”
