Management and staff of Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket recently organized their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project as part of ongoing fundraising for the ‘Developing Sustainable School’ initiative, ‘I-Oun Peur Nong @ Baan Nok Na‘ project. Efforts included visiting Baan Nok Na school to host lunch, play games and donate stationery, sports equipment and other supplies to the children there.
Since the inaugural project began in 2004, Dusit Thani been raising money for Baan Nok Na School, located in neighbouring Phang Nga province, to help provide educational opportunities and develop a sustainable school for disadvantaged students.
Thanks to generous donors, over 2 million baht was collected. When the tsunami hit in December 2004, little damage was caused at the school, although many students’ homes were destroyed. The foundation helped tsunami relief efforts and enabled students to repair and repaint study areas, refurnish buildings, rebuild toilets, and even renovate the road leading to their school. As a result, a cafeteria was named ‘Dusit Thani Cafeteria’ in honour of the hotel.
The CSR programme also provides annual secondary scholarship funds to disadvantaged students who have graduated from primary school grade six and wish to study to secondary level.
