A training course focusing on the hospitality tax collection system was held for hospitality industry professionals at the Phuket Pearl Hotel on June 3rd 2014. PPAO Chief Administrator – Watcharin Pathomwattanapong opened the event which was attended by Council Members – Prasit Sinsaowapark and Theera Jiasakul, Division Heads and officials, along with 250 hospitality professionals.
The training course, organized by PPAO and Phuket Area Revenue Office, focuses on tariffs levied on hospitality firms by the local government. It aims to bring about greater understanding among hospitality enterprises of the tax systems used by various local agencies. Lectures included topics such as “Hospitality Taxes and the Development of Phuket” (by Watcharin Pathomwattanapong), Regulations, Criteria and Laws on Council Taxes collected from Hotels’ Clients under 2002 Act” (by Yongyuth Laksanawiboonkul, PPAO Internal Inspector), “VAT – Hospitality Taxes – Opportunities of Phuket Hospitality Businesses – Preparing for AEC” (by Associated Prof Jutha Tianthai), and “Understanding Excise Duty in Relation to AEC” (by expert from Phuket Revenue Office). Throughout the course, there were regular question-and-answer sessions. Mr Patcharin reiterated the course details above and said he hoped the training would increase understanding among hospitality enterprises of the government tax system and how the contributions are used.
