On Friday evening, 31st August 2012, at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, Deputy Director of Airports of Thailand (AOT) – Wing Commander Pratheep Wichittho announced that work on the expansion of Phuket International Airport is finally starting.
It is now down to the winning contractor, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Company, to ensure that the 5.7 billion baht airport expansion is completed in the 31 months they promised, and Phuket’s visitors can start to enjoy what has long been promised in February 2015.
The first phase of the expansion, expected to take about a year, will be the building of the new international terminal. Once this phase is complete work will commence on renovations to the old terminal.
Along with expansion of the terminals, work will also be carried out increasing the length of the taxiway, increasing the number of aircraft docking points and also increasing the car parking spaces from 500 to 1500.
