On June 14 2010 it was Hard Rock Cafe’s worldwide Founder’s Day Celebrations with a touch of ‘Taking Time to be Kind’. The Patong branch in Phuket, beside Courtyard Marriott hotel, hosted 39 kids, mostly orphans of parents lost to HIV AIDS, from the Life Home Project at Ko Sirey, east of Phuket City. The kids had their very first Rock ‘N’ Roll experience and a time of their life at the memorable cafe full of famous memorabilia from rock and pop stars all over the world.
They were all well fed, taken care of and then entertained in fun songs & games with gifts by energetic staff led by Urs Mosimann, GM, dignitaries including Kathu & Patong police chiefs, the winner of Hard Rock Phuket’s Ambassador of Rock contest about to fly off to London for a huge concert there, two attractive Miss Hard Rock Phuket 2010 winning contestants – both students of Prince of Songkhla University, plus other guests and media. The kids were treated to ‘The Best Burger in Town – Hard Rock’s Signature Burger’ and treasured every single moment of joy, in this first for Patong as an annual event. Then all those who supported the event also got a special offering of Hard Rock Signature Burgers at only 71 Baht, to commemorate the 1971 birth year of Hard Rock in London, UK.
Phuketindex captured the atmosphere in photos and interviews afterwards with Somkid Srirak (Khit), Scholarship Program Coordinator for Life Home Project Foundation, in Thai and briefly in English to thank Hard Rock Cafe, and then with Urs Mosimann, the Swiss GM, in English:
Somkid told us in Thai: “Our home for children is just one part of many social support activities of the foundation. From what I saw today, the children were so happy to be out of their usual environment and a change in atmosphere here. For the future, our foundation intends to continually take care of needy children, especially those who are affected by HIV and AIDS, those children whose parents are suffering from HIV infection or have passed away from HIV; or from families in which they are living are not ready to take care of them, we are ready and willing to help, support and give them warmth. Our foundation still needs support from others to help these children. For those who are not able to give money, your encouragement or moral support is considered enough.” To help the Foundation, contact tel/fax 076 614060 or see www.lifehomeproject.org
Urs said “the main aim of HRC’s founders is to help local communities, not just make business money, and we gave fun and smiles for the kids who seemed to really participate, especially in the YMCA song. We gave out sustainable gifts like organic bags. It was nice the Police joined in. It celebrated our 39th anniversary of HRC worldwide. Every ‘Pink Tuesday’ we will raise more money for LHP. We have many contests too, so some of the winners helped today, including Ambassador of Rock. Perhaps the kids will be future ambassadors!”
