Phuket showing world's first humanoid mermaidOn 8th April 2013 at Phuket Aquarium, Thailand’s Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives – Mr. Noppon Srisuk opened an exhibition entitled “Mystery Under the Sea – Legend of Crystal City – Magic Island”. The exhibition features the world’s first humanoid mermaid, a technological marvel in the form of a robotic mermaid, with life-like movements, that moves across a large projector screen whilst telling the story of the world under the sea, and creating awareness on the conservation of natural resources and marine resources.

The mermaid was developed specifically for use in synchronization with  multimedia equipment. Hydro-pneumatic mechanisms are employed to create quiet, smooth and natural-looking movements of the arms, eyes, lips, neck and tail fin. Her skin is made up of a special blend of silicone and other synthetics which offers a degree of flexibility very much like human skin.

Phuket Aquarium is the only place in Thailand that has brought the arranged exhibition to the public, meaning only those lucky enough to be here can witness the special exhibition.

The exhibition is open to the general public from 09.30-15.30 p.m. every day.
