Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said this year THAI is operating 48 flights, transporting 7,080 passengers from 29 September – 25 November 2011 to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj Pilgrimage in Mecca.
Flights will depart from airports in Hat Yai, Phuket, and Krabi to Jeddah, in accordance with authorization received from Saudi Arabia. This year, THAI adjusted its flight schedule to arrive at Jeddah Airport, instead of Medina Airport. Due to heavy air traffic to and from Medina Airport during the pilgrimage, the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia granted approval for THAI to land at Jeddah Airport. Passengers who have already made flight reservations may travel according to the date, time, and airport specified in the ticket, while THAI will operate the return flight from Jeddah Airport to land at Hat Yai Airport, Phuket Airport, and Krabi Airport.
THAI is using the Airbus A330-300 aircraft for these special flights, with a capacity of 295 seats per flight. Muslim passengers traveling on THAI’s Hajj flights can rest assure that Halal meals served on board THAI flights are prepared according to the Islam faith, as the in-flight meals are prepared at THAI’s Halal certified kitchen in accordance with HAL-Q standards.
