Wannaprapa Sooksomboon, the assistant director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office, said Phuket tourism will not be affected by the tsunami in Japan. TAT and other organizations are generating money and items which will help the people there.
She recalled the number of tourists substantially dropped after the island was hit by tsunami in 2004. Consequently, astrologers should be careful when mentioning anything that will make people misunderstand the situation. The island should not face a dramatic disaster since it was not in the Ring of Fire like Japan and other countries.
She also added the new market for tourist to the island after the disaster was tourists from European countries, the middle-east, Korea, China and Russia. TAT has recently been trying to promote tourism in Phuket along with other Andaman provinces.
