Phuri Maswongsa – Vice President Marketing for the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA), said that during 19th -24th June 2011, PTA in conjunction with the Association of Phuket Provincial Administration Organization and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will have a road trip to Shanghai and Beijing in China to enhance the image of Phuket and offer clients tour operators in China.
They will sell trips via the Internet, allowing tourists from China who want to travel in groups of 2-8 people, to manage their own journeys via the system. With more available routes from China, direct flights to Phuket from many destinations, from July onwards tourists will be able to travel more easily.
At present, the online travel market in China is developing rapidly. There are more than 384 million internet users according to the Chinese government. In 2010 47.5 million Chinese tourists travelled abroad, an increase of 3.6% from 2009. 16% of these travelers booked online. The amount of tourists booking through the internet in 2011 has increased 27% to an estimated 70 million people.
The format of this event will be a Table Top Sales and Dinner Reception. Tourism Authority of Thailand invited 80 tour agents from Beijing and Shanghai to participate in the event and the PAO President will hand a Memorial Plaque “Friends of Phuket” to tour operators sending tourists to the province.
