Ministry spokesperson, Watchara Kannikar, said “We recently organised a pilot tourism volunteers training programme that attracted 400 local people in Pattaya and we will hold similar training courses in Phuket. The objective is to reduce crimes against tourists that have increased at popular destinations.
“Safety and security needs to be a long-term goal, we must rebuild tourists confidence after a series of negative incidents.”
The spokesperson added “Safety and security were top priorities for this year to rebuild tourist confidence.”
The volunteer course focuses on giving accurate tourism information, helping visitors understand tourism routes and training in how to offer first aid treatment in emergency cases.
