“Video & photos: 1st Phuket Street Show Festival was streets ahead of other festivals

Phuket Street Show FestivalPhuket Street Show FestivalPhuket Street Show FestivalThis is my video showing some of the impressive and amusing busker performers’ acts at the 1st Phuket Street Show on Thalang Road on Friday 17 December 2010, the 1st of 3 nights.
It includes:

  • Bencha Theater from Holland – acrobatics
  • Acrobuffos from UK/UK – action/comedy
  • Sakurako from Japan – balloon juggling
  • Jona Puppet from Thailand – marionettes
  • Tom Roughhigh from Japan – mimics mini figure
  • Sphircle from Australia + – contact juggling
  • ‘Funny Bones’ from UK/Japan – comedians

Also my battery and energy ran out too, but I wished I could have filmed more, with over 20 acts on 6 stages and 3 walk areas appearing at different times over 6 hours on each of 3 nights!

The TAT, Phuket City Municipality, Old Phuket Foundation, and Phuket Old Town Community, plus Workpoint Entertainment PCL, should be congratulated for bringing this troupe of skilled artists to Phuket, after they appeared in Bangkok, as a nice New Year gifts to Phuketians and tourists. Not only was it ‘streets ahead’ of other festivals in Phuket, even similar ones on the same streets, and including the Patong Carnival which was on at the same time, it was a show of high skills and relaxed humour, and of course free and so popular that it was difficult to move through the crowds and see all the performers along the street, putting pressure on the police, officials & also the water pipes!

Let’s hope they can get it arranged in Phuket again next year, and be able to improve the crowd control and ease the access/walking channels so even more people can see all the acts. One idea might be to insist that those going west walk on a left hand marked channel, those going east stay on another channel.

Maybe they should also put the buskers on the beach, perhaps at Patong, to get the maximum possible number of spectators, including more tourists, and also increase the income for the buskers who also rely on tips/gratuities after each performance.
