On August 1st 2012 at the Phuket City Hall Mr.Jamreun Thippayapongthada – Deputy Governor of Phuket held the meeting which was aimed at organising and improving the unsightly power lines and billboards along the Phuket’s main highway Thepkasattri Road. Also in attendance at the meeting were Mr.Wonsakorn Noonshukan – Phuket Public Works, Mr.Wisit Jaiart – Minister’s Counsel, Mr.Phurit Maswongsa – Phuket Tourist Association and relevant government agencies.
Mr.Jamreun said “The main problem is the number of advertising billboards along Thepkrasattri Road, both on government and private land, followed by the unsightly and messy cables. In addition to these two issues, there are also increasing problems with regards to garbage problem, road side hawkers selling goods such as flower garlands, Roti Saimai (Thai candy floss), chairs and bed nets. All of these make Phuket unsightly and gives the city a bad image. I have now ordered the relevant agencies to implement urgent changes and to report how they intend to solve the problems.”
The committee has decided to select Chalong Municipality as a model for the project and will now an agreement of cooperation to organize and improve the landscape and make Phuket a beautiful city, which is will improve the island’s image for both residents and visitors.
