Phuket beaches crowded with tourists with no fear of a rumoured tsunami

phuket travelThe atmosphere of Phuket famous beaches like Patong, Kata, and Karon is very busy. There are a lot of foreign tourists sun-bathing and swimming. It seemed that they did not worry much about a rumoured & false prediction that a tsunami would hit the shore of Phuket and other coastal areas during this month.

Somboon Jirayus, the President of Phuket Tourism Association, said that there are no reports about tourists panicking about the prediction. Now, most of the tourists coming to Phuket are from Europe. However, the number of Thai tourists slightly dropped because of the rumour about a tsunami, but he still believed that it would not affect Phuket tourism much since Thai tourist numbers are not high compared to foreign tourists coming to spend their vacation in Phuket. In addition the room reservation rate in Patong is about 70% and it would reach 100% in late December.
