Set to run from July 18th to 22nd, the event is one of the most prestigious of its kind held in the south-east Asian nation.
It was named the Asian Regatta of the Year at the 2011 Asia Boating Awards, making it only the second of Thailand’s six regattas to win the prize.
“We’re delighted with the accolade, which reflects what our participants have been telling us for the past several years,” said Grenville Fordham, managing director of Image Asia, which organises and owns the rights to the event.
The festival is set to feature four days of heated yacht racing action and five nights of beachside parties at the five-star Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket.
Competition takes place across a host of boat classes, including cruising, bareboat and charter yachts.
The first Phuket Race Week was held in 2004 and attracted 19 boats. By 2008, the number of entries had more than doubled.
