Phuket City Municipality (PCM), Phuket Cultural Board, Phuket Old Town Foundation, and Phuket Old Town Community, will join hands to hold the annual moon worshipping ceremony on September 20th-22nd at the Queen’s Park near TAT’s office in Phuket city.
Somjai Suwansupapana, the Mayor of PCM, said that moon worshipping ceremony was a traditional event of Chinese-Phuket residents. It had been held every year for over 100 years. In the ceremony, people make a wish to the moon and ask the moon to guard the city and make the city peaceful. It is held on the 15th night of the waxing moon period in the 8th month of the Chinese calendar which is September 22nd this year.
Apart from the worshipping ceremony, there would be traditional and local products stalls as well as traditional performances shown in the event. It also aims to attract tourists and families to come together and promote peace among all.
