Phuket marked the 5th anniversary of the Tsunami

On 26 December 2009, 10am, at Loma (Dolphin) Park, Patong Beach, Phuket’s Governor Vichai Praisangob presided over the prayer services to mark the fifth anniversary of the tsunami.

Many officials, family and friends of the victims both Thais and foreigners were at the place to attend the services led by 26 Buddhist monks and observe a moment of silence for the departed.

While a candlelight ceremony was held in the night time of the day draw a lot of attention from public and media. Hundreds of candle lit up along 3 km of Patong beach and a number of lanterns were released into the sky by residents and tourists.
