2 December 2009 – Government yesterday approved THB 6 million from 2009-2013 fiscal year for Phuket International Airport Development Project.
Deputy Government Spokesman Watchara Kannika said Airport of Thailand (AOT) asked Ministry of Transport to consider the capacity development project of Phuket International Airport. The airport is expected to support 6.8 million passengers in 2010 but now it can serve up to 6.5 million only. Therefore the expansion is needed.
AOT plans for future. The airport will be able to support up to 12.5 million of people by the year 2018. However, no need to develop the runway as Phuket is already for Boeing 747 and Phuket Airport’s cargo amount still not the problem.
The project will be 100% funded by AOT’s revenue.
