Phuket Gateway

Phuket Gateway was initiated by Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation as a tribute to His Majesty on the illustrious occasion of His 80th Birthday. Completed in 2007, the gateway was built with the idea to welcome visitors who reach Phuket by land through Thepkrasattri Bridge.
Phuket Gateway was built on area of 25 rai in Baan Tha-Chatchai, Maikhao. It features a series of 29 sculptural which number 2 represents Phuket’s two heroines and 9 means His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (the 9th king of the Chakkri Dynasty). Travellers are able to learn a long path of Phuket since its tin mining period onto today’s tourism industry through the script engraved on each pillar.

Another hi-light of the gateway is a garden of sea turtle and it eggs sculpture work by artist Thana Laohakaikul to reflect the story of Maikhao beach where sea turtle come ashore to lay eggs every year.


Phuket Gateway is a stylish blend of each elements representing Phuket. They utilised bamboo, granite and cecrete tile meaning to simplicity, calmness and respect to nature.
Apart from being a tourist attraction, it is also a travel information centre featuring a small meeting room, mini theatre for people to study Phuket from visual materials, a Kopi Corner and a souvenir centre. Open daily from 9.00am-5.00pm.
