The Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket’s Office, reported that the rate of room reservations increased in the last three days of the 2010 Vegetarian Festival. Most of the largest groups of the tourists coming to Phuket during this time were from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. However, there were many tourists from European countries, Australia, and New Zealand as well coming to witness the event.
The information from hotels in Phuket showed that the hotels located along the procession routes were fully booked. Meanwhile, the hotels situated in the other parts of the island were 60-70% reserved. It could be claimed that the room reservation rate in Phuket had increased 10 % compared to the same time last year. TAT Phuket estimated that there would 400-500 million baht in turnover on the island during this event.
In addition, TAT revealed that hotel rooms in Phuket, especially near beaches, were already 60-70% booked in the coming high season. The number of tourists would increase 10%. Among the new groups of tourists were Indians, especially Indian wedding couples and filmmakers, and others.
