With Phuket International Airport’s expansion now under way, AOT are expecting delays for those coming to and leaving the airport. However, to eliminate some of the delays, passengers will be able to use an additional check-in area which will be housed away from the main passenger terminal, should their airline choose to make use of the facility.
This announcement comes as it was revealed that there could be a rise in the number of flights in the next twelve months of 25%, and in the past twelve months the airport has already handled more than 9.1 million passengers.
The additional check-in facility is believed to be being developed in the area of Nai Yang, about 2 km away from the airport. Passengers will be able to check in prior to arriving at the airport for departure and there will also be facilities such as restaurants, rest areas and transport connections to the airport.
Mr.Pratuang Sornkam – Director of the Phuket Airport of Thailand Public Company Limited or AOT said “Passenger increases while the airport is being expanded cannot be helped, but we would like to offer apologies for any disruption this may cause. We believe that by having this additional facility we will be able to reduce congestion at the terminal, making it more convenient for passengers. It is hoped that the additional facility can be done by the end of 2012.”
