Bangornrat Shinaprayoon, the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket’s Office, said Phuket would be crowded with both Thai and foreign tourists during the Vegetarian Festival at 20 local temples on October 8th-16th 2010. She added that the hotels in Phuket Town were fully booked during the last 4 days of the event. Meanwhile, the reservation rate in the hotels out of the town reached 50%-60% of all rooms.
She believed that the reservations would be continuously increased. The majority of tourists joining the event are from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. There would be a lot of Thai tourists coming in to witness the holy event of the island. She estimated that there would be approximately 400-500 million baht in turnover during the festival.
