New destinations, affordable full service fares, as Strategic Airlines takes off
Australia’s newest international carrier, Strategic Airlines, will soar into Melbourne skies for the first time ever this morning, with a full Airbus A330 bound for Phuket.
The wholly Australian-owned airline will make history with its inaugural Melbourne-Phuket flight, giving local passengers a brand new choice in international travel while also making its foray into the popular Thailand market.
Departing Tullamarine at 10.45am, flight VC240 will be at capacity with passengers and special guests of Strategic Airlines including VIP commercial and celebrity guests Tania Zaetta, Kelly Atkinson, Mike Goldman, Jaime Robbie Reyne. Launch festivities at Melbourne Airport will include celebrations at check-in with Thai dancers, drummers, representatives of Tourism Authority of Thailand and Tourism Victoria and celebrity guests joining airline founder and Executive Director Michael James to personally greet inaugural passengers.
Strategic will also host celebrations on arrival in Phuket with a launch event for 200 guests at Indigo Pearl Michael James, Strategic Airlines founder said the carrier was delighted to be establishing operations in the Victorian capital.
“Over the past 12 months we have been growing our services within Queensland and Western Australia and Melbourne is our third Australian hub,” he said.
“Our first route is Melbourne direct to Phuket and we have been encouraged by very strong demand,” he added.
“In an era of airline travel where most airlines derive incremental revenue from many extra fees and charges such as baggage fees, entertainment charges, food and beverages sold on board, we are a modern airline offering old fashioned, ‘all inclusive’ full service.
Melbournians are appreciating that and we are looking forward to further expanding our services out of Melbourne in the near future.”
Strategic Airlines’ Melbourne-Phuket fares starting from $299* one-way ($598* return) inclusive of taxes and are on sale via participating travel agents.
Strategic will operate the flights twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, offering 274 seats in both business and economy class.
The flights will depart Melbourne Airport every Tuesday and Friday at 10.45am, arriving in Phuket at 3.40pm local time. The return flights will depart Phuket International Airport every Thursday and Sunday at 7.30pm, arriving in Melbourne at 7.55am the following day.
On Thursday 24 February, Strategic Airlines will also make the first of its new twice-weekly flights from Brisbane to Phuket.
Phuket is the latest international destination to be serviced by the airline, which will also launch non-stop Brisbane-Denpasar (Bali) services from 19 March, 2011.
* Fares are for flights booked on the internet or $25 more when booked by phone. Fares are inclusive of taxes, fees and charges, are subject to availability and may not be available on all flights.
