Wichit Prakobkosol, the President of Thai – Chinese Entrepreneurs, said that many Chinese tourists had reserved package tours to Phuket during Chinese New Year Festival on February 1st – 10th 2011. They will take 150 charter flights to come to the island. Wichit mentioned that this was about 200% more than the 80 charter flights last year to Phuket, while in Bangkok, the growth was 50%.
“In February, there will be about 120,000 Chinese tourists coming to Thailand, while the average number of Chinese tourists coming to the country each month is 80,000 – 100,000. This generates 3,000 million baht of turnover for the country. This is because of the cancellation of the emergency decree by the government. The Chinese market’s growth will increase 20% all this year. There will 1.2 – 1.3 million Chinese tourists travelling to Thailand.” Wichit said.
Meanwhile, Pensuda Praiaram, the Deputy Director of Tourism Business and Products, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said it will spend 34 million baht of budget to hold Chinese New Year Festivals in China Town, Yaowaraj and in other parts of the country during January 30th – 10th February 2010.
