Bangkok, THAILAND, 17 June 2011 – Shopaholics and travel enthusiasts should get packing and take advantage of attractive Visa cardholder discounts and rewards at the annual Amazing Thailand Grand Sale organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and supported by Visa.
To kick-start the annual shopping extravaganza, Visa and TAT have launched a series of promotions and prizes for all shoppers. These include the “30-Day Experience Amazing Thailand Holiday” prize which is open to overseas shoppers and the chance to win a THB 1 million gift voucher for local shoppers. To qualify for either draw, shoppers simply need to spend THB 500 on a single receipt between 15 June and 15 August 2011 at participating merchants for one chance at winning. Shoppers can enjoy double chances when they pay with their Visa card.
All Visa cardholders will also enjoy up to 80 percent discounts and other privileges from more than 15,000 participating merchants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Samui, Hadyai and Phuket.
Somboon Krobteeranon, Country Manager, Thailand, Visa said: “Visa has worked with the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the past 13 years to promote the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale. Our campaigns have made this sale an unmissable event and this year we are stepping up efforts to boost Thailand’s reputation as the premier shopping and holiday destination in Asia Pacific. From high-end brand names to local dining haunts, resorts, hotels and exotic handicraft shops, the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale will fill every shopping bag with great value.”
During the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2010, Thai retailers brought in US$624 million (THB18.72 billion) in sales from foreign-issued Visa cards. Visa has also seen an increase in spending on international cards from January-March 2011 with a 13.3% increase in total payment volume and almost US$1.6 billion (THB 48 billion) spent in the first quarter. The key drivers behind the growth came mainly from increased spending by travelers from Australia and Scandinavia, as well as the fast growing BRIC group of nations.
TAT expects overall sales to grow by five percent this year.
To encourage more visitors to visit Thailand during the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2011, Visa has worked with TAT to roll out a series of roadshows in key markets and also leveraged on its network to promote the Sale overseas either through Visa-led marketing campaigns or in conjunction with client banks and merchants. The source markets include Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea as well as Oman, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
