On August 1st 2012 at Mahogany Hall, Satree Phuket School, Mr.Pornchai Leawpatthanapong – Phuket Juvenile and Family Court Chief Justice chaired a workshop entitled “The Knowledge of Law for Children and Youths in Educational Institutions”. The workshop was attended by Mr.Jirawit Pitikulsatid – Phuket Juvenile and Family Court Associate Judge, representatives from the Judge’s Association, teachers, 600 students from 9 of Phuket’s secondary school including PPAO Muang Phuket School, PPAO Talad Nuae School, Darasamut School, Morning Star School, Baan Samkong School, Princess Mother School, Kajonkiet Suksa School, Phuket Withayalai School and Satree Phuket School and a number of other distinguished guests.
Mr.Jirawit said “There is an increasing problem with juvenile violence, which is possibly the result of Thailand’s current economic growth, technological advances and increasing influence from western culture. These factors can affect children’s behavior, both directly and indirectly, and will lead to social problems such as abandoned children, drug taking and theft. Therefore, all involved parties must find a way to help prevent the occurrence of such problems. This workshop has been set up to provide legal knowledge to children and youths in educational institutions, to make them aware of the penalties and damage that will follow if they are involved in certain illegal activities.”
Mr.Pornchai said “If children and young people get basic legal knowledge, know about the dangers of committing an offense, we hope this will reduce the number of juveniles committing offenses. If we teach our younger generation to be good citizens, it will improve our society in the future.”
